Information hub

An information hub with reliable and relevant information for whānau and professionals.

Takiwātanga - Māori Autism Support

Welcome to our whare kōrero (information hub).  As takiwātanga consultants, we provide useful resources that you can come back and refer to, share with others and help change the way we live with takiwātanga as a community. Our information hub is a collection of regularly uploaded videos to explain and support certain situations that whānau or professionals in the workplace may be experiencing when living and working with taonga takiwātanga. This can include behavioural information, social and societal awareness and helpful tips to help you connect with others on levels that are right for them in their own time, and also help you explain to others in your whānau and the wider community how to join the conversation.

Because every situation and taonga is unique, you may need a different approach and additional support, and you can contact us at any time.

Takiwātanga Consultants

There is a broad spectrum of characteristics living underneath a narrow view umbrella, often referred to as ‘autism’ or ‘autism spectrum disorder’ in the community. Here at Kanorau we use the term takiwātanga, instead.  By changing the narrative, we strive to empower the way that whānau connect with and accept the uniqueness they experience. We believe that by shifting our view, we can change the way the community as a whole can positively impact the lives of our tamariki, embracing and celebrating special abilities rather than seeing them as inabilities. With the right support and awareness, we strive to give our taonga takiwātanga increased resilience and capabilities now and in the future.
